Fundamentals to Consider When Selecting the Right BJJ School

Recreation & Sports Blog

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu may be one of the oldest disciplines in martial arts, but it is only in recent times that it has started taking the public by storm. Over the years, more and more individuals have discovered the array of benefits that this gentle art provides. From teaching one self-defence tactics to affiliating weight loss and even enhancing one's mental and physical flexibility, BJJ is advantageous to children and adults alike. Nonetheless, if you want to make the most of your martial arts training, you must take the time to find the right school to meet your needs. Failure to do so increases the likelihood of quitting BJJ training, which will be a disservice to yourself. So what should you be looking for? Below are some fundamentals to consider when selecting the right BJJ school.

Location of the school and the class schedule

One of the first considerations you should have when in search of the right Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school is the location of the academy. Some people think they should base their choice of school on cost, but this is the wrong approach. You could find an incredibly cheap school, but if it is located quite a distance away from your home or office, you will end up wasting money on commuting to your classes. Bearing that in mind, it is always best to narrow down your options to BJJ Schools that are close to you, as this guarantees you will not have to contend with extended commutes. Once you have whittled down your options, you should then take into account the class schedules of the various BJJ schools. For instance, if you can only find some free time during your lunch break, you should look for a BJJ school that offers classes at this time.

Your primary motivator for taking up BJJ training

The second consideration to bear in mind when looking for the right BJJ school is whether the instructor is capable of meeting your goals. People take up BJJ training for a wide array of reasons. For some, these classes present an opportunity for them to get fit, so they may want an instructor that is capable of conditioning their body.  For others, these classes are a means of venturing into mixed martial arts tournaments. Therefore, they would need an instructor that has not only taken part in competitive mixed martial arts but will know how best to provide their students with a competitive edge. You may also be thinking of engaging in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training as a family sport, which means looking for an instructor that offers age-appropriate classes for you and your loved ones. Irrespective of your primary motivator, ensure you communicate this beforehand so you can make a confident choice when selecting a BJJ school.

How I Fell in Love with the Sea

Hi, there! Welcome my friend to my new blog. When I was a child, I hated the water. When my dad tried to teach me how to swim in the local pool and burst out crying and ran to my mother's arms. After that traumatic experience, I decided that I wasn't going to near the water ever again. I managed to keep myself dry for the next 27 years. I met a wonderful woman who loved to swim and sail on the open sea. She encouraged me back into the water and I had an amazing time. I now own a sailboat and take part in swimming competitions. I hope you enjoy my blog.
